# How much does a small business website cost in Ireland?

A small business website in Ireland typically costs €2,500 to €6,000 from an agency, €800 to €3,000 from a freelancer, or €150 to €400 a year on a DIY builder plus 20 to 40 hours of your own time. Agency projects with custom design and ongoing search work run from €5,000 to €25,000. Whatever you choose, expect another €150 to €400 a year to keep the site online.

## Why the quotes vary so much

Two quotes for "a website" can differ by a factor of ten, because the word covers several different things. A one-page brochure site and a 200-product online shop are both websites. So is a bespoke booking system.

The things that move the price:

- **Number of pages.** Three to six is the normal range for a small business. Every extra page is copywriting, layout and images.
- **Whether you're selling online.** A shop with payments, stock and shipping rules is a different build entirely. Irish agencies typically quote €6,000 to €12,000 for a store of 100 to 500 products.
- **Who writes the content.** Supply your own text and photos and the price drops. If the agency writes it, that's several days of work.
- **Custom design versus a template.** A customised template gets you 90% of the look for a fraction of the cost.
- **Search and strategy work.** Basic setup is usually included. Ongoing search work is a separate monthly retainer.

## What you actually get at each price point

**Under €500 a year: DIY builder.** Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy. You pick a template and do the work yourself. Cheap in euro, expensive in evenings. The monthly fee never stops.

**€249 to €349: done-for-you, fixed price.** A brochure site built for you from your details, live in one to two days. This is what we do. It suits a business whose site needs to be found, look right and produce a phone call. It does not suit an online shop.

**€800 to €3,000: freelancer or template build.** Quality varies enormously. Ask to see three sites they built more than two years ago, and check whether those sites are still online and still being updated.

**€2,500 to €6,000: small studio or agency.** The common range for a five-to-ten page Irish small business site with proper copy and some search work behind it.

**€6,000 and up: larger agency, e-commerce or custom build.** Right if you're selling online at volume or need the site to talk to other systems.

If you're not sure which of these you need, the choice between an agency, a DIY builder or a done-for-you build comes down to what the site has to do, and whether you want to be the person who maintains it.

## The cost most quotes leave out

The build price is not the total. A website has running costs for as long as it exists:

That last line is where most small business websites quietly fall over. A site built in 2021 and never touched since is a security problem waiting to happen, and fixing a hacked WordPress site usually costs more than the original build. ## Are there grants for a website in Ireland?

Yes. The [Trading Online Voucher](https://www.localenterprise.ie/discover-business-supports/trading-online-voucher-scheme/), run through your Local Enterprise Office, offers eligible small businesses up to €2,500 towards getting online or improving how they trade online. It's matched funding at 50%, so drawing the full €2,500 means spending around €5,000 on the project.

To be eligible you generally need to have been trading for at least six months, have fewer than 10 employees, have turnover under €2 million, and not have received a voucher before. You attend an information webinar of two to three hours, then apply with a quote before any work starts. A decision usually takes one to four weeks. Criteria are set locally and change, so ring your LEO.

Two things worth knowing. The voucher is aimed at trading online, so it fits an online shop better than a brochure site. That is a smaller group than you might think: the [CSO's 2025 survey](https://www.cso.ie/en/releasesandpublications/ep/p-isse/informationsocietystatistics-enterprises2025/) found 35% of small Irish enterprises sell online, and it only counts businesses with ten or more staff. And at our prices it rarely earns its paperwork: a €349 site would return €175. It makes sense on a €3,000 to €5,000 project.
